Denmark Reopens Land-Based Casino Licensing Process
The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) has reopened applications for land-based casino licences, giving both existing and new operators the opportunity to enter the market.
Applications will be accepted until November 3, 2026. Successful applicants will receive licences valid for 10 years under Denmark’s current gambling legislation.
Before making a decision, the regulator will consult local municipalities, police authorities and several government departments as part of the licensing process.
Operators will be assessed on their financial stability, experience in running casinos, management structure, customer base and plans for the proposed venue.
Denmark currently has seven licensed land-based casinos located across the country.
Licensed operators must also pay an annual fee based on their gross gaming revenue. The highest fee applies to operators generating at least DKK 100 million in annual GGR.
Alongside the new licensing process, Spillemyndigheden continues to strengthen its fight against illegal gambling. The regulator said it investigated 695 gambling websites last year, with 334 later blocked by court order. Authorities noted that the increase reflects stronger enforcement efforts rather than growth in the illegal gambling market.
